Just a collection of photos take on recent visits to the Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
We witnessed sloth movement! That never happens! These hairy guys are always curled up in a ball of stillness. The movement was fascinatingly slow. This guy below is super fast compared to the sloth.Below is Bill, a former New Yorker who relocated to South Carolina during the pandemic.
Bill joined Winifred and Kondi (the ladies are to the left). They did not seem to care much for Bill's presence when we witnessed them together. I felt really horrible for Bill since he was just trying to make friends and be accepted in his new home. Hopefully the ladies have lightened up towards him since we saw them.
I wish I videoed the squirrel monkeys who had a live worm.
The baby was trying to get it from the bigger guy.
It was quite amusing until the worm was dropped!
It was a vibrant azalea and honeysuckle season.
The hydrangeas have been blooming.
The garden is filling in beautifully for the warmer months ahead!
The banana leaves are gigantic already! These grow back to the ground in the colder months and pop right back up as long as the winter was not too harsh. No this is not autumn foliage but spring leaves! There was no sign on this tree. Since it looked like a redbud, I Googled it and believe it to be the flame thrower redbud.
Have a marvelous day/evening (wherever you are on the clock)! ~Val
Have you ever seen that Disney movie "Zootopia"? Sloths have a couple of really delightful cameos in it, very funny!
ReplyDeleteYes! Disney does an amazing job portraying different species' traits!
DeletePoor Bill, I hope he can make friends. Sloth and monkeys are very charming. The tortoise seems in hurry :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blooms.
My fingers are crossed for Bill!
DeleteOh dear, I hope the ladies warm to Bill soon. Love the sloth! I've liked them ever since we saw Sid in "Ice Age".

DeleteThat flame thrower redbud is pretty and wow -- I didn't know that about the banana plant. Some great animals here, too!
ReplyDeleteWe planted a couple of banana plants in our yard. One is coming back this year but we did not put in as much effort as the botanical gardens so one of them will not be coming back!
DeleteI love botanical gardens ❤
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! Love seeing all the animals! I hope Bill has some friends now! All the flowers and greenery is gorgeous! Big Hugs!

Thank you so much Allie. Visiting a zoo can be really relaxing. While I don't enjoy seeing animals in captivity, I do realize the important work that zoos do for each species.
DeleteThe colours of the blooms are so lovely.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thank you Jan!
