A Hotel Lobby

I am still catching up on blogging photos before spring arrives and we start living again. This collection of photos is from a JW Marriott in the new/old section of the Savannah, Georgia waterfront. 

This amazing space is like a museum of natural history.

It is filled with dinosaur and under the sea fossils, gigantic gems and more.

I know you are amused by the shape of this massive one below.

We stumbled upon this lobby when walking through a connected art gallery.

It took us a while to realize it was a hotel lobby. 

Kids would love wandering and wondering in this space. Those windows are hotel rooms in the lobby. I would imagine the noise can be crazy here with all the activity going on.

Kiosks are here too, marketing beautiful goods. That is the butt of a T-Rex suspended from the ceiling below.

I would recommend checking out Plant Riverside (as this newer section of river front is named) for anyone visiting Savannah. It is an amazing feast for the eyes! Below is part of the hotel lobby check in. Gorgeous.

Since this is a historic building, once a power plant, aspects have been preserved and highlighted.

These guys are in a cafe just off the lobby.

I am really looking forward to going back since the renovation of old buildings along the waterfront was still a work in progress when we were there. This hotel spans 3 buildings, the third due to open this year.

Scenes from Savannah Part II

Savannah, Georgia is one of the most charming cities I have visited with its grand entrances.

I will be adding a visit to the Telfair Museum next time. Multiple statues out front signify greats like Michelangelo, Raphael, Rembrandt and more.

There is beautiful architecture all around.

Banks always seem to have some of the most gorgeous facades.

Upcycled cannons become a piece of art outside The Savannah College of Art and Design.

Stunning trees add to the beauty.

This magnificent home below was boarded up when we were there. I am hoping it has new life next time we visit.

Some homes are ridiculously majestic.

Many little girls have probably dreamed of living in this pink charmer.

The touristy riverfront section is growing as renovations have been underway and much completed of more old buildings.

I'm not sure what is going on in the photo below but I love it! Air plants along with ivy maybe, growing on the side of an old building? Not sure what the pink fabric is all about.

A beautiful job was done below to maintain the look of the old.
 

There is a splash pad for the kids in the "newer" section.

  This section has a very different vibe from the old section.

To the left below is an outside, stand alone bar along the Savannah River. A really cool set up!

Hopefully we will make it back here next spring so Savannah becomes an annual trip!

Strolling the Riverfront of Savannah

 Approaching the historic riverfront of Savannah is like taking a step back in time. 

The landscape drops towards the river and is covered by old live oaks with draping Spanish moss.

Dangerous, steep, old staircases await the daring.

Repurposed buildings run along the upper part of the riverfront.

One you make your way down you are challenged with very old, uneven ankle spraining type of cobblestones.

 We came across these scary steps that are blocked off from adventurous visitors.

The Savannah river is charmed with the Savannah Queen.

She is available for dining and sunset cruises.

Since Jim and I are walkers, we typically don't go for the tourist things.

The shops have amazing, restored real estate to work with!

Most of it is extremely touristy and messy to look at but there are some attractive spots.

A riverfront stroll is not complete until you walk through Savannah's Candy Kitchen and see deliciousness in action! The shop itself is an entertaining with trains riding around above your head. You can see the tracks above. Enjoy a free sample of their famous pecan pralines! Not one of my favorite nuts, but when in a praline, I love the pecan! The shop smells crazy amazing too.

The photos do not do the riverfront justice. It is a very unique place to visit!
