The Carolina Foothills Garden Club Sanctuary

Being at Falls Park on the Reedy in Greenville, South Carolina, one may not realize this historic attachment. It is located at the bottom of the falls and off to the right if walking down along the river.

The old spring house above was once used for botanical purposes prior to the creation of this garden in 1934. Now it just adds charm.

This beautiful area to meet up with friends was designed and created by the city, Furman College and the Garden Club.

The historic steps take care to use.

Above the garden is Furman College. What a perfect spot to unwind after a difficult exam.

Nature is creating beautiful sounds here.

Like the rest of the park downtown, this is extremely hilly!

Looking down from above can bring on feelings of vertigo.
A step back in time.
The Carolina Foothills Garden Club took over here in the 1960s.

I ever visiting Greenville, it is worth wandering out of the beautiful newer park and into this historic oasis.

Have a marvelous day/evening (wherever you are on the clock)! ~Val

Patios and Porches of Savannah

Strolling the streets of the historic downtown of Savannah, Georgia is a treat.

The solid fence in the background below actually has a cutout design. Something I have never seen before in a fence. There is a small doorway awning beyond that with the same design. Just fabulous!
The variety of porches and patios is charming.

The majority are behind cast iron gates adding to their character.

An occasional surprise can pop up like this lovely double doorway.

Sometimes the entry way doubles as a patio.

All these beauties bring up fantasies of living here.

Residents really know how to maximize their outdoor space in Savannah!

Beaufort, South Carolina

Beaufort, South Carolina is a favorite getaway.

Being the second oldest city in SC, it sees plenty of tourists. Below is a tabby wall here which is concrete riddled with sea shells. This was common in Savannah and the Lowcountry of SC back in the day.

Beaufort is much quieter than the state's oldest city, Charleston making for a relaxing break.

There are charming walks leading to the riverfront.

There is a variety of eateries.

 Fun shops to peruse.

I love a shop that utilizes all its space!

Moving south we sort of traded bagels for biscuits (equal trade as far as deliciousness goes).  When going to a place like Beaufort that sees a lot of northerners, you can find NY style bagels. Rain n Bagels is the place for this!
As usual we do prefer to wander off the beaten path where you can enjoy things like massive, centuries old live oaks.

Horse drawn carriage rides are available so visitors can learn the local history of this city chartered in 1711.

Even busy intersections have charm with views of Antebellum homes.

I would think Beaufort is boring for children. However we did see quite a few little ones and there are plenty of candy and ice cream shops to keep them happy!

Besides tourist shops, there are eclectic shops.

Art galleries too.

There is even a tea shop.

This was our second visit.

I was pleased to see many of the establishments we visited the first time survived the pandemic.

This is a charming town to visit for a night conveniently located between Charleston and Savannah.

Something to ponder.
