Occasionally we stroll our downtown of Lexington, SC to see what has changed.
A new pavilion was constructed during the pandemic.
The downtown is hilly and the construction worked with the land beautifully. It is the new home of the Farmer's Market as well as for events happening downtown. Here it is in action during the Saturday morning market from 9am - 1pm.There are a variety of small business owners sharing their crafts, such as the culinary arts.
Pottery.
Jewelry.
Wood crafts.Pizazz for pooches.Skin care.
I hope the new pavilion helps the market grow.
Ironically it is lacking in fresh produce! This is something Jim and I would like to see so we do not have to drive to the state farmer's market. Perhaps now with a shady area that has great fan coverage, we will see more produce than we see there now.
The pavilion is adjacent to the outdoor Icehouse Amphitheater and a perfect complement.
Behind the amphitheater are the picturesque grounds of the Palmetto Collegiate Institute.
It is a lovely spot for weddings and other gatherings.
There are a number of photo op areas.
So charming!
Across the street from the pavilion and amphitheater is the Virginia Hylton Park. This public park, like the institute, can also be rented out for gatherings. It is a hilly, wooded park. An unexpected gem in a busy downtown.
There is a small gorge within the park. It was dry the day we visited.
Its pavilions are a great place to meet up with friends and family.
The park is in the process of renovations. The pandemic seems to have put this project on temporary hold. I look forward to seeing all the plans completed!
I hope you enjoyed this glimpse of our downtown!
Have a marvelous day/evening (wherever you are on the clock)! ~Val

Thank you Jan! Have a great weekend too!
DeleteI did wonder where the produce was... but it looks like a nice arts and crafts fair all the same!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great place to connect with local artisans!
Deletethis looks like a beautiful park. I love how they have designed the pavilion -- far more interesting than most you see in a community park. And I liked that little gazebo, too. Those touches are really special.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeanie. It is a beautiful downtown that just keeps continuing to improve.
DeleteThe pavilion design looks great for many activities.
