Hilton Head Island

Jim and I had a relaxing October getaway on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina.

First we stopped at the Coastal Discovery Museum which gives the history of the island, 68 acres of trails, native plantings and massive live oaks and teaches about the wildlife here.

There is so much texture in the mud of the marshes from the wildlife, oysters, vegetation and water.

A butterfly house is also here. Unfortunately it was the end of the season so we did not see too many.
This little turtle resides in the a children's education section. He was posing for the camera.

Then we headed into the area we were staying in. There are amazing trees everywhere you look. I love how protective this state is of unique and massive trees even when they grow sideways, rather than up!

Even though there is a live oak on a pedestrian pathway, she stays! I wonder how many people hit their head on this beauty each year! I am only 5'2.

We strolled through the newer Lowcountry Celebration Park.

It is beautifully landscaped with open spaces, gathering spots and a super fun playground for kids.

This handsome guy was drying its wings. I thought he was a sculpture at first.

Throughout the island are beautiful walkways and bike paths. There are over 60 miles of public trails for walking and riding making it a bike rider's paradise.
The Tiki Hut is a beach bar with live music daily starting at 1pm. We found ourselves here a couple of times!

It is just perfect for a relaxing afternoon with the ocean breeze, people watching and views of the beach.

We caught a lot of live music on the island which we love.

Many eateries have charming outdoor spots to enjoy.

We stayed near Coligny Plaza which is beautifully designed with waterways, fountains and boardwalks. It contains over 60 shops and restaurants. It is a perfect section of the island to visit if you don't want to drive around or ride a bike.

We really enjoyed Hilton Head for its beach vibe! More pictures coming in future posts as I get organized!

Have a marvelous day/evening (wherever you are on the clock)! ~Val
